One life event to the next is an exercise in continuity that can only be experienced as one accepted moment at a time. We look ahead to beginnings and grasp on to moments that delight us. We mourn endings and lament over painful moments, blocking our ability to experience what is in our lives right now. When we resist that which must leave us or that which is not as we planned or envisioned, there is bound to be discomfort, irritation, anger, sadness, pain – fear. So, we simply need not resist what is. We can do this simply, perhaps, but not always easily.
This ceasing to resist, this surrender to our situation is acceptance. But acceptance is not the same as giving up, giving in, or becoming passive. Acceptance is full and open and objective observation of this moment… any moment… all moments without judgment. Acceptance doesn’t mean that we do not act upon the circumstances of the moment, but it does mean that we act with more clarity, less prejudice, and with all of our senses and faculties contributing to our choice of actions or inactions in that moment.
Our experience, knowledge, understanding, and wisdom will be called upon automatically. This is the intuition that guides our actions when we trust our higher self and our connectedness to the universal intelligence that brings order to all creation.
So, yes, let us delight in that which is joyful, then let it go; let it run off of us like a warm summer rain to transform and nourish as it travels from one heart to the next. Likewise, let us not be afraid to feel pain as it occurs, let us not deny its value in the awakening of the soul, but then let us also breath it out and set it free; let it transmute into the powerful fuel that propels us on to the next moment and a more profound and beautiful wisdom.
This moment is a beginning. A transmutation of the state of the last moment, and it is completely unique and precious. It is like none before it; It will be like none after it. It is timeless. Live this moment fully, completely, vigorously; it is the beginning and the end… the end and the beginning. The only, the one, it is now. You are now… mysteriously, mystically, miraculously now.
